How long does it take for you to:
Switch from watching one YouTube video to another, if it doesn’t interests you?
Switch from one new series to another if you don’t like it ?
Some seconds or initial few minutes isn’t it ?
Is it really the reduced attention span, plethora of options or something more intense ?
Don’t do we do the same in a meeting / discussion/ training or any forum?
Mentally switching off if we don’t find something of interest?
Not paying attention when something or somebody isn’t relevant enough to keep us hooked into the conversation?
Is it really the reduced attention span or lack of interesting and relevant content and the content not answering the fundamental question – WIIFM- What’s in it for Me! – as a listener
Next time you are delivering a talk, planning an important presentation, speaking to Internal / external Stakeholders…
Remember- They all would switch off if the first few secs and minutes don’t sound impactful or relevant.
Prepare well, start with the end in mind, rehearse, communicate the WIIFM and read the vibe and course correct.
How do you ensure you sound relevant and impactful during high stake conversations and ensure your listeners are plugged in while you speak?
Would love to hear!
